A 10,000-strong crowd watched Finnish snowboarder Peetu Piiroinen claim first place, followed by Markus Malin from Sweden in second and Swiss snowboarder Iouri Podladtchikov in third.
With the SIX(6)STAR Burton European Open finishing Friday night, the Swatch TTR World Tour moved right on to its next stop in Italy, Rock the Spot - an intensely creative concept put on by the Fiat Freestyle Team and Quiksilver, combining live bands and a Superpipe competition. The event was a roaring success that surely pushed the boundaries of a FOUR(4)STAR rated event. A 10,000-strong crowd watched Finnish snowboarder Peetu Piiroinen claim first place, followed by Markus Malin from Sweden in second and Swiss snowboarder Iouri Podladtchikov in third. Piiroinen now sits at World No. 7 right behind Podladtchikov who is TTR World No. 6, both athletes inching closer to the TTR Top 5.

Made famous by the 2004 Olympics, the Bardonecchia halfpipe has developed a well-earned reputation as one of the best halfpipes in the world. Above-freezing temperatures during the day led to an icy pipe in the evening but the competitors pushed on landing airs that reached 5 meters out. Athletes were trying hard to get a piece of the of 60,000 Euro prize purse, an incredible amount for a FOUR(4)STAR event.

Trick of the night went to New Zealand’s James Hamilton who is now TTR World No. 13, while the highest air of the night went to Stefano Munari of Italy who moved to Rank No. 43. Other runs of note: Frederik Austbo (NOR) with huge air all night long, TTR World No. 15 Markku Koski’s (FIN) linking difficult tricks together, TTR World No. 11 Markus Keller (SUI) and his super clean style, and Janne Korpi simply going big and sitting at TTR World No 14.

It was indeed an intense weekend for the Swatch TTR World Ranking list: with Jamie Anderson and Risto Mattila, we saw two new athletes taking over the Number 1 watch TTR positions after the Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland. Many other riders made their way up to the Top 10 and even Top 5 – the full new ranking is available on www.ttrworldtour.com as well as the latest videos on our TTR Video Player.

Stay tuned to www.ttrworldtour.com for updated news and ranking changes as the Tour makes its way to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for the FOUR(4)STAR Quiksilver Natural Selection as Innsbruck, Austria prepares for the Swatch TTR FIVE(5)STAR Billabong Air & Style.
